Why this exists
Europe has spent billions building high-speed rail lines. Yet most operators still run a network based on legacy systems and within national borders, not around what travelers actually need. Nobody has asked, at scale, what people would actually use, and pay for, if it existed. That's the gap Nextrack is here to close.
What we do
We run two anonymous surveys, in multiple languages. A short one, built for anyone. A longer one, for anyone who wants to go deeper: pricing, comfort, what makes you switch from a plane to a train, and the routes you wish existed but don't. No accounts. No tracking. Just real answers, at scale. Alongside the surveys, we talk to the people shaping the future of rail: industry insiders, policymakers, business leaders, and eventually, travelers themselves. Same question, asked from every angle: what's the gap between what's built and what's actually wanted? Beyond the surveys, we post about travel on Instagram and TikTok to build the audience this research depends on.
What happens with your answers
Only a small part of what we learn gets published here. The rest goes directly to the people who can act on it: rail operators building new networks or improving the ones they already run.
Who's behind it
Nextrack is run by a four-person committee. Three of us have spent years working across major European rail operators, and take part anonymously, to keep this research independent from our day jobs. The 4th runs things day to day and is the face you'll see.
